My suspension sculpture was a memory pulled directly from my childhood. My grandma used to keep small fairy gardens and houses all around her yard. Seeing these as a child, I was always to curious and appreciated the beauty of it. I constructed a small fairy house. Wood coffee stirrers naked up a large majority of the house, as well as popsicle sticks. A plaster bowl was created with a chicken wire armature. Inside the bow are two blocks of floral foam, and resting on top is the moss and the fairy home itself. I tried to add small little details to this. There's a small piece of fabric in the front to add variation in texture, as well as feathers around the ‘year’ for a pop of color and to bring some balance. The whole piece sits in a crochet bowl. I chose to crochet this because I love to crochet, and I wished to incorporate that into my work. Twine and yarn was used in the base crochet, where just the yarn is used for the straps.
